Family-oriented festival is hosted by Latincouver, a non-profit cultural group, and takes place in downtown park.

Carnavalito on the Road is a Latin festival that brings the rhythms, dance, food and cultural traditions to 91原创's Douglas Park on Saturday, Sept. 7.

This family-oriented festival is hosted by Latincouver, a non-profit cultural group.

The event will capture the flavours and energy of Latincouver's annual Carnaval del Sol, offering a celebration of Latin American cultures with live music, dance performances, food and drink, games and activities for all ages to enjoy.

"The spirit and energy of Carnaval del Sol is coming to the Fraser Valley with the launch of Carnavalito on the Road,鈥 said Latincouver executive director Paola Murillo. "We are proud of our Latin American heritage, and treasure this opportunity to share this free cultural celebration with the community.鈥

Carnavalito on the Road will feature more than 50 artists and 40 food, business and market vendors across 6 plazas, plus a number of immersive activities.

Local and international Latin American artists will take the stage at the Main Plaza. From folklore and salsa dance performances by local troupe M茅xico Vivo, to  Afro-Cuban beats by Kutapira, the lineup was created to appeal to all ages. There will be performances by Meni Axe Band, Grupo RM, Abraxas-Tributo a Santana, Los Duendes, Tren al Sur, and Rumba 7.

At the Kids & Family Plaza, children will be treated to face painting, Spanish storytelling, a sand art workshop, and more.

The  Food Plaza will offer guests a taste of traditional and contemporary Latin American dishes, and will feature 10 food vendors. There will be a beer plaza for those 19 and older, offering beers and seltzers and music from a DJ.

The event will include a community building area, specifically to give temporary foreign workers a place to connect, learn about the rules of the program.

While attendance is free, cash donations are welcome at the door, and booking tickets online in advance is recommended to help with planning. For more information and tickets, visit latincouver.ca/carnavalito-on-the-road.
