Vancouver filmmaker Laurent Goldstein is coming to 91原创 to change the way people think about aging.
Goldstein is showing his documentary called Your Second Fifty: Rising Above the Fears of Aging at the Chief Sepass Theatre on Jan. 16.
Your Second Fifty was first released in 2016 by Goldstein鈥檚 production company called Citrus Pie Media Group, and the film explores the fear of getting older, with the intent to inspire people to live the second half of their lives fully.
鈥楾he problem is, we are told and taught by society and doctors that when we age, we are supposed to slow down. [We are taught] that all these things show up like arthritic pain, and that it鈥檚 normal to have chronic pain. It鈥檚 not normal. We shouldn鈥檛 resign ourselves to that,鈥 explained 63-year-old Goldstein.
The film came into fruition in 2016 after Goldstein met motivational speaker Frank Moffatt, who wrote the book that the film is based on.
Goldstein said he was 鈥渇ascinated鈥 by the topics of Moffatt鈥檚 book.
鈥淚鈥檝e always been fascinated by the concept of time, aging, our relationship and how we age, and thought 鈥榯hat sounds great.鈥欌
In the film, experts discuss how to best cultivate the financial, physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of life while aging.
鈥淭o a great extent we have much more power than we think we have,鈥 said Goldstein, who has been health-conscious for most of his life.
鈥淚n my late teens, I was already taking care of myself with naturopathic and homeopathic medicine, organic food, [and] vitamins.鈥
Goldstein added that the 40 speakers in his documentary offer audiences 鈥渓ittle pearls of wisdom鈥 on aging.
鈥淚f I can make even a very small difference, there is no greater satisfaction.鈥
The film features experts such as Dr. Bruce Lipton, Dr. John Demartini, Bob Proctor, David Wolfe, Naomi Judd, Dr. Daniel Amen, Bruce Allen, Arielle Ford, Aurora Winter, and more.
And while the film sets a large focus on aging, Goldstein added young audience members can also take away an important message.
鈥淲hen I was younger, I didn鈥檛 pay attention to time going by nearly as much as now. Now I work more, and work harder, and am doing much more. I am excited with all the possibilities, there is so much to do. I鈥檓 so excited to be alive,鈥 explained Goldstein.
鈥楾he message for people who are younger is to maximize and do as much as they can.鈥
In addition to experts, motivational seniors also talk about their experiences with aging in the film, such as a 70-year-old woman who sailed solo around the world, and a 70-year-old man who climbed Mount Everest.
Your Second Fifty is Goldstein鈥檚 second documentary, and he is working on a third one titled Chronic Pain that is set to be released in the spring.
