Comedy Department returns to 91原创 this month

Performance features musical parody and more

This November will bring The Comedy Department and its middle-aged boy band parody performance.

Canadian comedy award winner David Milchard and Ken Lawson will take the stage on Saturday, Nov. 23, using suggestions from the audience to guide the show.

Denise Jones, a member of The Comedy Department, anticipates an even larger audience in attendance than an Oct. 19 show. At that show, the troupe put on a comedy competition performance with judges and members have decided to return to 91原创 following a successful show

鈥淭he last performance was a great turnout, considering there was an atmospheric river. I anticipate this one's going to be even crazier, because we've got a totally different show. It鈥檚 going to be a middle-aged boy band, and when we did it in Port Moody, it was crazy as it sold out a month in advance. It was just a more of a real party vibe,鈥 she said.

The show will revolve around the cast reliving their childhoods.

鈥淚t's sort of like all these people who loved boy bands when they were growing up, sort of reliving their youth kind of vibe. The concept of the show is that these guys used to have a boy band cover band back in the '90s and then life takes over. They got on with their lives, and now they're sort of pursuing their dreams again and their kids are grown,鈥 Jones explained.

Through conversations, The Comedy Department members decided they want to embrace the older generation in this performance.

"I think a lot of us, as we get older, as older performers, it鈥檚 sort of an idea as an older generation to do things that are normally ascribed to a young man's game, as they call it," she added.

The community has a lot to look forward to as well, said Jones.

鈥淭hey鈥檝e never seen anything like this. There's no show like this happening right now. So, it's going to be rad, synchronized, have awkward choreography, and be made up as well as having made up songs on the spot. It鈥檒l be just a joyful and fun evening for sure,鈥 she said.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Chief Sepass Theatre, 9096 Trattle St. in Fort 91原创. People must be 14 years of age or older to get in.

Tickets for the middle-aged boy band parody can can be purchased for $42.85 at .
