A Christmas classic is coming to 91原创 this week with a dramatic reading of Charles Dickens鈥 A Christmas Carol.

In its 5th annual year, proceeds from the reading will benefit the 91原创 Arts Council鈥檚 Children鈥檚 Program.

Local thespians Rose Hominick, Helen Hamzavi-Zarghani, Paddy Tennant, Rosemarie Cooper, Peter van den Bosch, John Craig and Eric Hominick will perform the story of Ebenezer Scrooge while dressed up in period costume, and accompanied by musical interludes.

鈥淎udiences and performers alike find this magical story a heart-warming, inspiring way to start their Christmas season,鈥 said one of the readers, Eric Hominick.

Hominick added the simple format of the show carries the 鈥渕ood and emotion鈥 of the classic ghost tale.

鈥淲ell, first of all, it is the sound of the human voice, well-projected, clearly and interestingly modulated, and well invested in what it is saying. It carries the mood and emotion and humanity of the narrative as well as the sense of the story, and thus is compelling.鈥

The reading is on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at The United Churches of 91原创 on 21562 Old Yale Rd.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 at Long & McQuade Music on 6339 200th St., Kinsmen Centre at 26770 29th Ave., or online at www.langleyarts.ca.
