Franco Zeffirelli鈥檚 production of Tosca, starring Sonya Yoncheva and Vittorio Grigolo, broadcasts live from the Lincoln Centre in New York on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 9:55 a.m. (12:55 p.m ET). TOSCA

Rivaling the splendor of Franco Zeffirelli鈥檚 Napoleonic-era sets and costumes, Sir David McVicar鈥檚 ravishing new production offers a splendid backdrop for extraordinary singing. Sonya Yoncheva stars as the title prima donna alongside Vittorio Grigolo and Zeljko Lucic. Emmanuel Villaume conducts.

Gaetano Donizetti鈥檚 L鈥橢lisir d鈥橝more has been among the most consistently popular operatic comedies for almost two centuries. The story, set in a small village in rural Italy, deftly combines comic archetypes with a degree of genuine character development that is rare in works of this type.

Pretty Yende debuts a new role at the Met as the feisty Adina, opposite Matthew Polenzani, who enthralled Met audiences as Nemorino in 2013 with his ravishing 鈥淯na furtive lagrima.鈥� Bartlett Sher鈥檚 production is charming, with skillful comedic timing, but also emotionally revealing. Domingo Hindoyan conducts.
