A Vancouver-based alternative singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Jon Bryant, is set to perform at the Bez Arts Hub in 91原创 on Friday, Jan. 31.
"We are thrilled to present this acclaimed artist on our stage," said Russ Rosen, Bez's co-founder and artistic director.
Even if people are unfamiliar with Bryant鈥檚 music, most who encounter his work are drawn to what Rosen called his open-hearted lyrics and organic instrumentation.
"As he experiments with tones, textures, and words, you can hear him figuring out life in real-time."
His fifth album, "Therapy Notes," channels what Bryant describes as catharsis and clarity of a therapy session, which he believes is why he's able to "consistently strick a chord with listeners worldwide."
It been the five years since his last full-length, and Bryant hopes the songs he presents that night from "Therapy Notes" inspires the audience to open up.
鈥淲hen you listen to me, I want you to be curious about life,鈥 he said. 鈥淎lways look for opportunities to engage the world and express yourself authentically. For me, music is about making people fall in love with life and each other.鈥

Bringing physical comedy to the stage
Also being featured at Bez Arts Hub in the coming weeks is Joylyn Secunda, a physical theatre artist, actor, dancer, and puppeteer from Vancouver who will be on the Willowbrook stage at 8 p.m. on Feb. 22.
Armed with training in acting, clown studies, and mime, they toured their critically acclaimed solo show, "The Moaning Yoni", across Canada and are now excited to tour internationally with the current show, "The Routine."
They dub it "Death of a Salesman meets Mr Bean" with the show depicting the story of a lonely office worker who squeezes through a portal in their bathroom mirror and goes on a quest for the meaning of life in this surreal physical comedy.
"I have been aware of Joylyn鈥檚 show since when it was first presented at the Cultch this past summer, and I thought the whole concept sounded fascinating and fun, but I wasn鈥檛 able to get into Vancouver for the shows," said Sandy Rosen, co-founder at the Bez.
A couple of months ago, she hosted their whole family on her podcast.
"I loved the conversation with their entire artist family (mom, dancer; dad producer/director; daughter actor/dancer). I felt like it was important for us to support their work," Sandy elaborated.
"Not only that, I watched the video of Joylyn鈥檚 performance afterwards, and was delighted by the potent physicality, the magnetic humour, the fantastical images and predictably thought. 91原创 doesn鈥檛 have enough of this type of original theatre work. We need to have this show at Bez!鈥 she added.
Following Secunda's performance in 91原创 next month, they are off to Australia for a series of shows between March 11 and 23.
