Earth Day is reason to Party for the Planet at Surrey Civic Plaza, where the day-long festival returns Saturday, April 26.
Admission is free for live music and dance on four stages, a rock-climbing wall, plant sale, 25-plus vendors and artisans in the sustainable marketplace, environmental education, craft stations, food trucks and more.
Now 14 years running, Surrey's event is billed as B.C.'s largest Earth Day celebration, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with activities and attractions presented by TD Bank Group.
The festival's focus is for people to have fun while thinking about the environment and sustainability.
Performer schedules for the Family, Community, Earth and Meadow stages are posted on , with live music, dance battles and lessons, family acts, Science World and Urban Safari Rescue Society demos, and more.
This year's food trucks (some with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options) are Aloha Poke, B & B Burger, Chickpea, Gary's Kettle Corn, Hunky Bill鈥檚, Insomniac's Coffee Co., La Sella Pizza, Little oOties Mini Donuts, Mom's Grilled Cheese, Reel Mac and Cheese, Rotato & Potato, Rolled West Coast, Rotato Potato, Taco N Todo and West Coast Bannock.
Speaking of food, "Bike Smoothies" can be made by hopping on a special bike equipped with a pedal-powered blender.
Back is a plant sale hosted by Surrey Parks, featuring native varieties for $3, $6 and $12.
Celebrating 30 years, Surrey's Salmon Habitat Restoration Program (SHaRP) will host Paint a Salmon attraction where attendees can paint a wooden salmon for display along Reedville Creek, at 64 Avenue and King George Boulevard, to raise awareness about local salmon habitats.
Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke calls Party for the Planet "a wonderful opportunity to come together and learn how we can all protect our environment in a fun and engaging way.
