Jagmeet Singh and the federal NDP have named Vanessa Sharma as their candidate for the upcoming byelection in the Cloverdale-91原创 City electoral district.

The NDP said in a press release Sharma has a 鈥渓ong track record鈥� of tackling climate change, working for better health care access, and advocating for more affordable housing.

鈥淚鈥檓 excited to have Vanessa join the NDP team,鈥� Jagmeet Singh, leader of the NDP, said in the release. 鈥淪he鈥檚 dedicated to the fight to make life more affordable for everyday people.鈥�

Singh said Sharma would fight for them and 鈥渘ot for billionaires.鈥�

Sharma鈥檚 LinkedIn lists her as 鈥淰P Workers of Colour Working Group at Canadian Labour Congress - Advocating for Equity.鈥�

The release notes Sharma also works with FortisBC in community engagement and she volunteers with a number of community organizations.

Sharma promised she would make a difference if elected.

Sharma will face off against Tamara Jansen (Conservatives), Pat McCutcheon (Greens), and Madison Fleischer (Liberals).

A byelection was officially called on Sunday Nov. 10 to elect a new MP for the riding. The election is set for Monday, Dec. 16, with four days of advance polls running Dec. 6, 7, 8, and 9.
