VIDEO: Young vendors sell their creations at Coghlan school fair

Students at school take part in annual fundraiser

This year, the annual Coghlan Fundamental Elementary craft fair expanded into the hallway outside the school gymnasium and into the library, to provide more space.

Kirsten Pryor, one of the parents who organized the Saturday, Nov. 18 event at the school 鈥 located at 4452 256th St. in Aldergrove 鈥 said the change was a response to feedback from participants in the previous year鈥檚 fair.

鈥淲hat we found from last year, when we sent out an email to all the vendors asking how everything was, people had commented it was too packed,鈥 Pryor said.

鈥淪o because our school only has a half-gymnasium, we decided this year to put the kids in the hallway, so that we could have more kids鈥 tables. And then, we moved the photography down into the library.鈥

It meant shoppers, especially people in wheelchairs, had an easier time of it, Pryor reported.

鈥淲e did, definitely, find it was way more accessible. So we took all of their considerations from last year and we put it into this year and so this year, I think it was a great success.鈥

Thirteen kids, all students at the school, were selling their creations.

鈥淭hey crafted all their own items,鈥 Pryor observed.

鈥淭he kids had a lot of fun because they had to make their stuff and then they had to decide on selling and prices and it鈥檚 just uplifting,鈥 Pryor explained.

鈥淓ven if they made $10 they were just, like 鈥榳ow.鈥 We definitely had more kids this year.鈥

Another 27 vendors were selling in the gymnasium.

The event raised more than $4,000, funds that will go toward school gym equipment, field trips, and other initiatives.

The 50/50 draw prize, $320 was won by a visitor from Chilliwack.

Taylor said she and co-organizer Jen Bradley will be looking for volunteers to take over next year.

鈥淲e鈥檙e ready to pass the torch on to maybe some of the younger parents who want to take over,鈥 Pryor told the 91原创 Advance Times.

鈥淢y kid is going to be in Grade 6 and hers is going to be in Grade 5. So, you know, [we鈥檙e] hoping somebody will take it over because it is such a good community event.鈥
