VIDEO: Remembering the fighters at 91原创's Museum of Flight

More than 200 visitors attended Battle of Britain Day at the Canadian Museum of Flight

More than 200 visitors attended Battle of Britain Day at the Canadian Museum of Flight in 91原创 on Sunday, Sept. 15, a new record.

Museum General Manager Bruce Friesen reported the total as 212, up from 167 at the same event in 2023, "which was itself the highest for the date."

"We were very pleased with our visitor number and demographic," Friesen told the 91原创 Advance Times.

"We succeeded in attracting people interested in Battle of Britain stories. [There was] a high percentage of seniors."

The day marks the turning point in the battle between British and German pilots, the first conflict fought entirely in the air.

To mark the occasion, the museum at the 91原创 Airport put top fighters of both world wars on display and in the air.

There were replicas of an early-model Spitfire and an early-model P-51 Mustang fighter from the Second World War, while the two flyable Sopwith pups replicas of the famed First World War fighters flew from 91原创 to Boundary Bay Airport and back to participate in an air cadet program.

Friesen said the Spitfire, slightly smaller than the original, was built by an engineer from Boeing in Seattle, as a flyable 5/8 scale plane.

It was a Supermarine Spitfire Mark II, "very much" a Battle of Britain era fighter, Friesen said.

"This aircraft has been built and painted  to represent an aircraft  that would have participated  in the Battle of Britain," Friesen explained.

The replica Mustang, also smaller than the real thing, was a home-built aircraft that flew out of Abbotsford for many years.

This year is 鈥淩CAF 2024鈥, marking 100 years of service for the Royal Canadian Air Force as a distinct military element.
