Residents in North 91原创 have a new dog park, or at least part of one.

The first phase of the off-leash area at Yorkson Community Park opened recently, and immediately attracted local dog owners.

Located at 82nd Avenue and 207A Street, the park includes open grassy areas, trees, and some dog obstacles such as ramps and metal hoops.

鈥淚 take him out every day,鈥 said Darryl Tanzil, who brought his golden retriever puppy Piko.

He used to take Piko to nearby sports fields to go for a run, but the dog park is better. 鈥淭here are more dogs for him to play with here,鈥 he said.

On Tuesday, Piko got to meet dogs such as Weesie, Joey, and Blinky.

The park is technically intended for large dogs, but the second, small dog phase isn鈥檛 yet finished.

鈥淲e had hoped that both would be open at the same time,鈥 said Al Neufeld, parks planner for 91原创 Township.

The small dog park area is expected to be open around the end of September. Until then, large and small dogs can play off leash in the main area.

When both phases are open, it will cover about an acre and a half, said Neufeld.

It鈥檚 part of a larger expansion of Yorkson Community Park that includes a number of softball fields.
