VIDEO: Not just boots: market fundraiser for 91Ô´´ church

Every third Saturday at St. Andrew's Anglican Church on Old Yale Road

Rosemary Hetu, organizer of the monthly market and fundraiser at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, was explaining why it was first called a "boot sale" when it launched earlier this year, and why the name had to be changed.

"Somebody suggested that a "boot sale "would be a good name to have because you're selling from the boot  of your car, which is an English term, which I thought everybody would know, but apparently, no,"Hetu explained.

It seems a lot of people didn't know "boot" refers to the trunk of a car.

"You have to live in South Africa or Australia or England to know what the boot is,"Hetu said.  "So now we've got it as a market/boot sale, simply because a lot of people just thought we were selling boots, and we're not."

At the most recent sale, on Saturday, Aug. 17, vendors were selling everything from garage sale items to hand-made crochet items and baked goods.

"A little bit of everything," Hetu remarked.

Money from the markets goes to help the church, Hetu said.

One of the vendors, Melissa Eberle from Coquitlam, was selling paintings featuring popular characters and encouraging quotes, created by her younger sister Claudia, who has an autoimmune disorder.

"It's where her connective tissue doesn't work," Melissa explained.

"It's faulty. So  she has a lot of pain in her body. Her joints will dislocate, but it also affects her organs. How her heart functions, how her stomach functions, a bunch of different organs. And she uses art as therapy, but also a way to contribute to her medical expenses in the best way that she possibly can right now."

There will be two more St. Andrew’s Anglican Church market/boot sale fundraisers at in the hall and parking lot from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m on Sept 21, and Oct. 19, rain or shine.
