Good 鈥榞ourd,鈥 that was one whopper of a pumpkin Scott Carley brought to Krause Berry Farms on Saturday, Oct. 7.

The 91原创 man set a B.C. record with his monster entry at the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off.

Carley 鈥 who works for an engineering firm and grows pumpkins as a hobby 鈥 is a familiar face at this annual event, which has the distinction of being B.C.鈥檚 Official Great Pumpkin Commonwealth (GPC) and certified world recognized giant pumpkin weigh-off.

Weighing an impressive 1,543 lbs., the gargantuan pale yellow pumpkin grew, and grew, and grew some more on Carley鈥檚 small acreage in south 91原创.

鈥淪eeds went into the ground May 22, I pollinated August 15, so it鈥檚 about 75 days old,鈥 Carley said.

He pulled the pumpkin off the vine Friday, Oct. 6, a day before the competition.

Carley now holds the distinction of having cultivated the heaviest pumpkin in B.C. history.

The previous provincial record was also once the world record, with a pumpkin tipping the scales at 1,536 lbs.

Going into the competition, Carley wasn鈥檛 sure if he鈥檇 brought the heaviest pumpkin.

鈥淵ou never know, right, until it gets on the scale,鈥 Carley said, as he leaned against his winning entry. 鈥淪ometimes pumpkins go either light or they can go heavy. And in this case, it went 20 per cent heavy, which is really heavy.鈥

The pumpkin is staying at Krause Berry Farms until the end of October for all to see.
