鈥淭his is what鈥檚 stopping traffic on Francis lately,鈥 quipped Brenda Sleightholme, as she motioned towards a 30-foot tall scrim of artwork covering the front of her home.
In the course of renovating the exterior of their house at 23288 Francis Ave. in Fort 91原创, Brenda and her husband Paul installed a scaffold and attached a 15-foot x 30-foot scrim of Brenda鈥檚 artwork, entitled 鈥楥anada 150.鈥
鈥淲e thought we鈥檇 give the neighbours something more interesting to look at, than our scaffolding,鈥 Brenda said.
This particular piece of art is a scene from the Fort 91原创 National Historic Site (FLNHS) and includes some of the fort鈥檚 volunteers dressed in costume.
To bridge the 150 years, Brenda also included modern dressed characters, a drone delivering Jim鈥檚 Pizza (a longtime pizzeria on Glover Road), and the York Boat/Bateau, the 鈥楤renda A鈥, which is a replica built by the Bedford Rowing Society, of the boats that used to ply the waters of the Fraser River from Fort Hope to Fort 91原创.
The original painting, measuring 30 by 60 inches, is on display in the FLNHS鈥檚 reception area.
Brenda said she originally wanted a scrim of a Scottish castle, or a drawing of the finished renovation, but her husband, who is a big supporter of her artistic endeavours, suggested the Canada 150 painting.
鈥淢y husband said, 鈥楲et鈥檚 celebrate Canada in a big way, so 60 inches went to 30 feet,鈥 Brenda related.
The house is only a couple of blocks away from the Fort.
The scrim was made by Epic Imaging of Port Coquitlam, and the builders鈥 shadow cloth was donated by Redden Net Custom Nets Limited of 91原创.
