VIDEO: A bigger and better 91原创 Glow show for Christmas

Runs Nov. 21 to Dec. 28 at Darvonda Nurseries greenhouse in Milner

This year's 91原创 Glow Gardens Christmas festival has added several new attractions to the annual show at Darvonda Nurseries in Milner.

Daryl Driegen, Glow president and COO said in their eighth year, the aim remains the same, to improve the experience while keeping costs down.

"Every year we think, 'You know what? I think we bested last year'," Driegen told the 91原创 Advance Times. "Our goal is to always [improve on] the previous year with creativity, with activities, with unique stuff. And we're really proud of what we put together for this year. We've rebuilt the entire show, all basically from scratch."

Running Nov 21 to Dec 28 at 6690 216 St., Glow includes an enchanted forest filled with glowing trees, shimmering lights, and hidden surprises; and the Crystal Palace with two winding staircases that offer a bird鈥檚 eye view of the entire show.

"Every piece in that show was designed in-house, actually all from scratch," Driegen explained.

There are attractions indoors and outdoors, with kid-friendly activities among the new elements of the show.

This year, Glow鈥檚 new mascots Fox and Bunny, will be on hand, for the Forest Wand Adventure and Rune Stone Mystery where each stone reveals a puzzle to solved to earn a reward.

"As times aren't always getting easier for families, a good Christmas getaway activity in their hometown is going to be important for memories for the year," Driegen said.

"And we want to make sure that we are that activity in a cost-effective, organized, and enjoyable way. We've been committed year over year to try to keep our prices exactly the same. And once again, we're going to be the same. But we want to make it special."

While he estimated there is a "more than normal" number of similar holiday events in 91原创, Cloverdale, and Surrey this year, Driegen said competitors are not the reason why Glow keeps upping its game.

"For us, it's trying to figure out what's cool, and to make sure we keep adding the value," he commented.

"We started this thing for a reason, and the reason was to be a special place for families to get together for Christmas. And we really want people to want to come every year, because that's why we're trying to make it new and interesting every single year."

Once again, charitable partners will benefit. GlowGivesBack will be hosting a food drive at Glow for Sources 91原创 Food Bank on Nov. 30, and free tickets are being provided to Canucks Autism Network, Options Community Services, Sources 91原创 Food Bank, Mom2Mom, Variety, Infinite Expansion Foundation, and SAFE Families.

Originally started to use idle greenhouse space during the winter months, Glow has spread to seven other communities in Canada and the U.S., with Eugene, Ore. the newest venue.
