Nominations to recognize outstanding community volunteers of 2023 in 91Ô´´ Township are now open.
Every spring, the Township presents the Eric Flowerdew volunteer award, the John and Muriel Arnason award, and the Pete Swensson outstanding community youth award.
Named after a former parks and recreation commissioner, school trustee, and municipal councillor, the Eric Flowerdew volunteer award recognizes an individual who promotes an active lifestyle that enhances 91Ô´´â€™s quality of life and community spirit through creative, cultural, physical, or social pursuits.
Named after former Township of 91Ô´´ councillor and freewoman Muriel Arnason and her husband, John the Arnason Award recognizes a pair of individuals who volunteer together to make 91Ô´´ a better place.
The Pete Swensson Outstanding Community Youth Award, named after the Township’s first recreation director – an internationally recognized athlete, photographer, and originator of the 91Ô´´ Walk – recognizes a Grade 11 or 12 student for their combination of athletic and academic achievements, leadership skills, and commitment to the community.
Nominations for this award must be submitted by the student’s school. Inquire with the school’s principal or vice principal to see if a student qualifies. One nomination per school.

Recipients of the Flowerdew and Arnason community awards will receive $1,000, to be presented to a recognized charity or society of their choice on their behalf.
The Swensson outstanding student recipient will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
Awards will be presented at the Township of 91Ô´´ Volunteer Appreciation and Awards Evening on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
