Renovated Aldergrove skateboard park gets a thumbs-up from users

$250,000 in upgrades

On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, July 11, at the modernized Aldergrove skateboard park, the Vantols from Aldergrove, father Steve, and sons Levi, eight, Benjamin, 12, and Joshua, 13, were having fun with their boards at the updated facility.

Steve said the Aldergrove skate park 鈥 located in Aldergrove Athletic Park, in the 26700-block of 29th Avenue 鈥 was showing its age before the renovations.

鈥淚t was mostly asphalt and the bowl was just kind of old concrete,鈥 Steve told the 91原创 Advance Times, during a brief break from skating.

Joshua described the older park surfaces as 鈥渟uper cracked.鈥

鈥淚 like the new upgrades,鈥 he commented.

Steve likes the location of the Aldergrove park.

鈥淵ou get a nice breeze, and you can see Mount Baker from here,鈥 Steve pointed out.

He also likes the friendly community feeling of the facility, with experienced skaters sharing tips with novices.

鈥淲e get all ages who come here, children and adults,鈥 Steve remarked.

Design and development of the new additions to the park were done by a 91原创-based skateboard park design and build company,. They added features that include a linear lane for a longer, continuous riding surface, and a banked hip, A-frame, funbox, and quarter pipes.

The additions followed a redo of the skateboard park鈥檚 clover bowl, replaced in 2021.

took five months, followed by five weeks of construction, before it opened in May.

Township Mayor Eric Woodward called the skateboard park 鈥渁 popular amenity in Aldergrove and a valuable one for Aldergrove youth, so upgrading it was important.鈥

鈥淲e鈥檙e pleased to see it open and appreciate the positive feedback we鈥檝e received from community members,鈥 Woodward added.

Township parks design and development manager Chris Marshall said it 鈥渨as apparent from the beginning of the planning process that this is a much-loved amenity for local skateboarders, so our team worked hard to respect its sentimental value to the community, while also enhancing its functionality as we prepared it for the next generation of youth.鈥
