People wanting to honour Remembrance Day have another option than Nov. 11 services.
The 91Ô´´ Senior Resources Society centre will once again host a service. This year's event starts at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.
"We will have members of RCMP along with a bagpiper attend. The LSRS choir will also be performing this day," said Kurtis Dueck, the manager of programs and member engagement.
The event includes elements of a traditional Remembrance Day service, including the national anthem, "Reveille", the "Last Post", "God Save the King", and two minutes of silence.
As well, there will be speeches and a reading of "In Flanders Fields", written during the First World War by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. He was inspired to write it on May 3, 1915, after presiding over the funeral of friend and fellow soldier who died in the Second Battle of Ypres.
The seniors centre choir will perform the hymn "Abide with Me" and the Second World War-era love song "Lilli Marlene".
The event is not restricted to centre members.
"The service is open to the public," he noted.
The seniors' centre, 20605 51B Ave., has held a Remembrance service for at least a decade.
