President鈥檚 message by Robin McIntosh/Special to The Star

鈥淚t鈥檚 my final season!鈥 as Blake Shelton said too many times on The Voice this year. For me, it鈥檚 the same message, just a different show.

After 12 eventful years, 2023 will be my last season as president for the Aldergrove Fair.

After many years full of fun, excitement, quirks and foibles, and too many tales to share in one newspaper article, it鈥檚 time to prepare another to take the reins for next year鈥檚 event.

Each year is born with great challenges, and yet I鈥檝e always been blessed by having a greater team to create this most unique world-class event year after year.

I know I will eventually miss the endless hours of stress and gnawing worry鈥 I mean excitement and fulfilling adventure鈥 But, I know I am leaving the Aldergrove Fair in very capable hands. Or, as my teenaged kids would say, 鈥淢uahahahaha!鈥

With that out the way, let me tell you all about the incredible events that we have planned for you at the 111th rendition of the Aldergrove Fair running from July 14 to 16!

You will definitely not want to miss this one. It鈥檚 my final season!

On Friday, the Aldergrove Fair opens at 6 p.m. with the annual Aldy Show 鈥楴鈥 Shine with hot rods and antique cars in the parking lot and live music on the main stage. The kids zones and games zones will also open at 6 p.m., so make sure you get there in time to be first in line.

To wet your whistle, we have an open beverage garden so you will be able to quench your thirst with favourite selections of a national beer, local craft breweries, or something non-alcoholic while enjoying some great fare from our food vendors.

The evening will be full of music, magic, and live entertainment throughout the fairgrounds.

Saturday comes fully loaded with exceptional events, games, and performances. The world-championship fast draw will include the celebrity shoot-out at high noon, the antique tractor pullers are revved and roaring to return, and festive tents are loaded with exciting interactive displays where you can participate or simply enjoy the view.

Our opening ceremonies begin with a prayer and welcoming song from leaders of the Kwantlen First Nation, words of support from our community leaders, and conclude with a loud festive salute from the Thunderbird Fast Draw team.

The rest of Saturday overflows with exciting games, races, and lots of entertainment including stilt walkers, balloon animals, facepainting and of course lots of events for the kids as well.

Music is always important in any fair and we will be having great entertainment all day long, which rolls well into the evening.

Join us Sunday for cowboy church at 9 a.m. and then stick around for more festivities including dog agility shows, dancing demonstrations, more music, more magic, and lots of just plain fun!

And best of all鈥 admission to the Aldergrove Fair is entirely by donation only鈥 so everyone is welcome.

But you know what is more welcome? Volunteers!

Every great event needs great volunteers and lots of them. We need you to step up and volunteer today.

If you want to experience a great game or hear some amazing music, then you need to help us make the magic happen. So don鈥檛 just enjoy the Aldergrove Fair, or any other event you like, get out and support it by volunteering.

That really is the most rewarding experience of all.

You can volunteer for the Aldergrove Fair this year by emailing Volunteers@AldergroveFair.ca or logging onto our .

Come and experience the traditional, come and experience something brand new, but above all: come and enjoy the unique world-class fun of the Aldergrove Fair.

See you at the fair鈥 It鈥檚 my final season!

鈥 President Robin McIntosh

and
