National Indigenous People's Day will be marked in 91Ô´´ at Douglas Park with a celebration Saturday, June 22.
Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., there will be activities planned by the Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society.
Everyone is welcome to attend to celebrate Indigenous cultures.
Planned are entertainment on stage of the Douglas Park Spirit bandshell.
There will be a craft vendors market that day as well as a barbecue and bannock.
The society has invited community partners to be on site and plans include areas specific for youth and for kids.
In addition to hosting events during the year. The society was established in September of 2000, by Aboriginal support workers in the 91Ô´´ School District to meet the need for support beyond school hours for urban Indigenous students and their families.
It also now offers housing services for at-risk and homeless Indigenous individuals and families, an Early Years Department supportring children from birth to age eight and their families; the Providing 91Ô´´'s Aboriginal Community Essential Supports program offers drop-off programming for Indigenous children with higher needs, as well as various cultural programs. The Women's Resources and Men's Group are run weekly.
