91原创 City adds #LCLive brand to community events

A new marketing strategy is aimed at awareness of community events, locally and regionally

There鈥檚 a lot of community activity going on in 91原创 City throughout the year, every year 鈥 so much, that the City has decided to brand it all with an easily recognizable social media-style hashtag: #LCLive.

There鈥檚 Family Day at Timms Community Centre in February.

Magic of Christmas kicks off the festive season locally every December.

There鈥檚 the Tri-it Triathlon and traditional Remembrance Day ceremonies, and the City shares the annual 91原创 Walk with 91原创 Township.

鈥淭here鈥檚 too many to name,鈥 said Francis Cheung, 91原创 City鈥檚 chief administrator, after starting an attempt at listing them.

After all, the hashtag may apply to any events that have a direct City involvement, including events that are put on by independent community groups that have been enabled through City funding, either directly or through community grants, or through the City鈥檚 cooperation.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a whole campaign encompassing every [approved] community grant, everything the City does,鈥 said Teri James, a 91原创 City councillor and Downtown 91原创 Business Association鈥檚 executive director.

It鈥檚 intended to be a way of 鈥渂randing all of the great events we have here,鈥 Cheung explained.

The branding will help bring the events to the attention of the public, Cheung said.

鈥淲e use a lot of social media, as well as newspapers and direct mail and other traditional advertising鈥 to spread the word about events that have a lot of local significance, but many of which also are important 鈥渇rom a regional perspective,鈥 he noted.

And the branding will begin with a launch in Douglas Park at one of the City鈥檚 big community events, this weekend鈥檚 Community Day Festival.

Billed as the City鈥檚 鈥渘ewest multi-season event campaign,鈥 91原创 City communications officer Samantha Paulson announced that, beginning with the Community Day launch, $25 gift certificates will be handed out every week from now through August.

鈥淭o enter,鈥 Paulson enthused, 鈥渇ind a 91原创 City booth, complete an entry form, and have a chance to win!鈥
