Dogs in the care of the 91原创 Animal Protection Society have a playground to enjoy during their time at the no-kill animal shelter.

Para Space Landscaping in Burnaby returned to 91原创 to help the animal welfare organization for the second time, creating a dog playground recently.

鈥淲e finished the playground items, and they look amazing,鈥� said Catherine Deacon, marketing co-ordinator with Para Space Landscaping. 鈥淭he bridge and toadstools were made from repurposed electrical reels.鈥�

Para Space staff, family and friends helped with the project.

鈥淥ur annual day of service was all for the dogs this year,鈥� she said.

Para Space used its horticulture expertise to redesign a fenced-in area for the shelter dogs to run off-leash.

鈥淭his area will enrich the daily lives of the dogs in their care but will also be used as a place for adopting families to meet and greet the dogs in a safe environment,鈥� she said. 鈥淭he staff and volunteers are also enjoying the space using it for orientations and lunch breaks.鈥�

The project included:

鈥� Bark mulch pathway leading from their main building to the fenced area,

鈥� Pergola with bench for staff and volunteers to get shelter from the sun and rain,

鈥� Privacy screen hedging along fence line to block out Hwy. 1 so the dogs aren鈥檛 scared by the noise and movement,

鈥� Three doggy playground items added (a bridge, sandbox, and toadstools).

Helping Para Space with the project were Meadows Landscape Supply, Cedar Rim Nursery, Texcan, Habitat Systems, and Landscape Centre.
