An estimated 2,000 visitors dropped by to see 600 cars of all kinds at the 18th annual Jellybean AutoCrafters 鈥淐anada d鈥橢h Celebration and Car Show鈥 held on July 1, at the old 91原创 Speedway.
The event, founded by brothers Ewald and Kurt Penner, has grown considerably from its origins as a show and shine at Jellybean AutoCrafters, the custom car building business the Penners operate near the Surrey-91原创 border.
鈥淭he weather and the atmosphere at the event was great,鈥 Ewald told the 91原创 Advance Times.
鈥淭he food trucks were busy all day, and the band was awesome.鈥
Vehicles on view at the entry-fee-free event ranged from 鈥渉ot rods to stock vehicles, trucks, race cars, motorcycles, muscle cars, all ,鈥 Ewald added.
鈥淲e鈥檇 like to thank all those that helped out or participated and made the event such an overwhelming success.鈥
Located at the south end of 208th Street off 16th Ave., 91原创 Speedway was a quarter-mile paved oval track for stock car racing that operated between 1965 and 1984, including several visits from the NASCAR Winston West series in the 1970s.
Before it was closed, it drew drivers from as far away as Alberta, Vancouver Island and the Pacific Northwest and filled the stands with fans, including the two Penner brothers, the youngest of 13 kids in a family of car fans.
