Food and toy drive organizer blown away by people's generosity

Less food but more money donated at fundraiser

Saturday's windstorm wouldn't stop people from supporting the Community Food and Toy Drive at the 91原创 Walmart.

"The winds were crazy, but the spirit of the volunteers and our customers was amazing," said organizer Jared Evans.

This was the second time for the Christmas fundraiser. Last year there was also a Thanksgiving food drive in.

The Saturday, Dec. 14 event coincided with a storm that brought wind gusts of up to 100 km/h but that didn't stop the volunteers who ran the event.

Evans said there were more cash donations this year but a bit less food dropped off compared to 2023. There were lots of toys and some pet foods donated. The total raised was $3,595, which included a contribution from the Indian Motorcycle Riding Group Chapter 2020 91原创.

"A local biking group chapter stopped by and donated $2,050," he noted.

The donations will be going to the 91原创 Food Bank, Ishtar Women's Resources Society, the 91原创 Animals Protection Society (LAPS), and the Infinite Expansion Foundation which holds an annual toy drive for needy families.

"Yes, it was a fun time, and very successful," Evans said.
