The doors to Erikson鈥檚 Daylily Gardens will be thrown open this weekend for it鈥檚 16th annual open house.
Pam Erikson鈥檚 annual garden show and charity fundraiser is the only time of the year that the public gets a chance to see the hostas, lilies, and of course, copious daylilies.
Despite the up and down weather, everything seems to have come together just in time for the showing, said Erikson.
鈥淭he hostas just loved it, they loved the wet spring,鈥 she said.
That鈥檚 good, since with fine weather expected, the crowds could be sizable. Last year 1,500 people turned out over two days.
There are several new varieties of daylilies on display and for sale this year, including one with a special story.
The Nicola Duquesnay Baker daylily was named after the late wife of Sean Baker of the 91原创 Animal Protection Society. All the money raised by the sale of that variety will go to LAPS, said Erikson.
Another dark red variety is named Canada 150 after the just-passed anniversary of Canadian Confederation.
The gardens will look slightly different this year, with new beds and growth coming up where there was once a cedar hedge, and more seating in some parts of the garden.
Erikson said visitors seem to want to sit and look at the garden and listen to the harp music of Judy Henry. Visitors will also be able to visit a booth of the Aldergrove Daylily Society and speak to master gardeners from VanDusen Gardens.
Admission to the garden is by donation and proceeds go to BC Children鈥檚 Hospital and selected local animal shelters this year.
Erikson said that as a private garden, they cannot accommodate wheelchairs, strollers, or walkers.
The open house runs Saturday, July 8 and Sunday, July 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
