There are additional categories to the Aldergrove Fair's prize exhibits this year, which is open to people of all ages and skills.
Exhibits include eggs, baking, canning/preserves, crafts, gardening, upcycling, and a youth category.
Entries don't have to be made with special equipment or years of professional experience, explained Amanda Smith, board member for the fair.
"If you just have a cookie recipe that you love, why don't you into into the cookie category for baking? A lot of it can be done from home. It's supposed to be very low barrier," she said.
This year in particular, the upcycling category received an enhancement thanks to a partnership with the 91原创 Environmental Partners Society (LEPS), Smith said.
"In the vein of reduce, reuse, recycle, LEPS put on quite a few repair cafes and we've seen the value of the upcycling category 鈥� don't just throw something away. Turn it into something else that can be useable. And that's something, I think, the average resident can do."
The deadline to enter is Thursday, July 18, at 4 p.m. and judging takes place on the first night of the fair, Friday, July 19, between 6 and 7 p.m.
Winners will be announced Saturday morning with a ribbon, and on display until about noon on both Saturday and Sunday, at the Kinsmen Community Centre.
"We have local Aldergrove judges judging this. And they're people who have been around and been involved with the fair for a very long time," Smith said.
Smith added she's hoping to see more entries into any and all the categories this year.
