A small group of young players age 12 to 14 were seated around a table in a meeting room of the Aldergrove Public Library at 26770 29th Ave. on Saturday, Jan. 27, waiting to begin their adventure.
It was the facility鈥檚 first Dungeons & Dragons class for younger players.
Dungeon master 鈥淛eff鈥 鈥 Jefferson Molinelli 鈥 was the instructor.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a collaborative creative game where you get to imagine you鈥檙e in a totally different world and you get to go on an adventure, and I think it鈥檚 a good thing for young minds to expand and use their creativity鈥 Molinelli told the 91原创 Advance Times as the game was about to get under way.
D&D. as it often called, is one of the most popular role-playing games of all time, one that does not rely on computers or the internet.
鈥淚t鈥檚 pens and papers,鈥 Molinelli said.
鈥淓verything is old school.鈥
Dungeons & Dragons, which was initially published in 1974, is considered the first modern role-playing game.
Players create their own, often flawed, characters, who go on an adventure, which is supervised by the dungeon master, who serves as referee and story teller for the game, and controls the the non-player characters the players encounter, as well as the setting where the adventure takes place.
鈥淚鈥檓 going to let them pick their characters and then we will begin the adventure,鈥 Molinelli said.
Outcomes are often decided by rolling unique dice, with as many as 20 sides.
Saturday鈥檚 event, the first of four, was fully subscribed.
