This year, a goal of the 18th 鈥淩ide for Doug鈥 fundraiser in 91原创 is to provide additional assistance devices for Doug Penner, the event namesake, so he can have more housing options.
His dad, Cam, said the aim is to get Doug 鈥渋n and out of a new living space,鈥 which could mean supportive housing or moving into a basement suite at the family home.
鈥淲hichever way we go, we need more lifts and hoists as Doug is losing mobility constantly,鈥 Cam explained.

Doug has Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), an inherited disorder that affects one in 5,000 males at birth. It rarely affects girls.
When Doug was diagnosed, his father conceived of the idea for a charity motorcycle ride through the Fraser Valley.
Over the first 17 years of Ride For Doug, supporters have raised more than $325,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada, with the funds supporting research, and equipment for patients.
As well, donors have raised more than $50,000 for special projects for Doug, like a stair lift in 2016, and an accessible vehicle in 2022.
This year, the ride will begin and end at the South 91原创 Church at 20098 22 Ave. on Sunday, June 2.
Motorcycle registration opens at 11 a.m., riders leave at 1 p.m.
Registration for the show and shine opens at 2:30 p.m. and the event will run 3-5:30 p.m.
A celebration barbecue will be held at 5:30 pm.
