Cloverdale bakery raises $1,200 for pedestrian killed in Surrey crash

A Cloverdale bakery raised more than $1,200 for the family of Emily Sanregret, the 21-year-old Surrey woman who was fatally struck by a car while walking in a crosswalk on her way to work three weeks ago.

The incident happened at 7 a.m. on Friday, June 23, at the corner of 168th Street and 60th Avenue.

That corner is right outside of , located at 16793 60 Ave.

鈥淲e didn鈥檛 know her personally, but many of our customers did,鈥 said Tammi Hall, co-owner of the bakery. 鈥淲e followed the story.鈥

Sanregret died in hospital six days after the crash, and the community has been raising money for funeral costs through a , which raised $6,950 in five days.

鈥淲e heard that her mum was a single mum and we knew right away that we wanted to help,鈥 said Hall.

Short & Sweet Patisserie and Bakery sold cookies for $1 each, with all proceeds going towards Sanregret鈥檚 family.

They sold 1,078 cookies, and took in $1,267 in donations. 鈥淭he support has been awesome, it鈥檚 been so great,鈥 said Hall.

Hall said that they saw many people come through the doors yesterday, including Sanregret鈥檚 family and friends.

Sanregret had worked as an early childhood educator, with children ages three to five. Her class visited the bakery last week so that they could purchase cookies, and so did the first responders who attended the scene of the crash.
