Aldergrove residents can once again drop off clothing donations at their local fire hall to help the 91原创 Township Firefighters Charitable Society (LTFCS) raise funds for local programs, including the snack program that provides healthy meals for students in 39 91原创 schools.

Zach Funk, co-director of the 91原创 Township Firefighters Charitable Society (LTFCS), said the Aldergrove donation bins had to be pulled a few years ago.

鈥淟ong story short, we were in Aldergrove, and we removed them [the bins] in an abundance of caution due to some of the vandalism that was happening,鈥 Funk explained.

鈥淚t was an entire neighborhood that we weren鈥檛 accessing for clothing donations,鈥 Funk told the 91原创 Advance Times.

鈥淪o time will tell, over the next year, exactly what impact that had, but for now, we鈥檙e hopeful that we will see a financial gain for our operations because of it [returning to Aldergrove].

They take lightly used clothing, linens and shoes.

Funk said the new, bigger, more durable 鈥渉igh security鈥 bins are being provided by Odyssey International, a second-hand store based in New Westminster that ships used clothing to Africa, Asia, and South America.

Odyssey handles the collection and 100 per cent of the funds it remits to the firefighters charity will go to support local programs, Funk said.

In addition to Aldergrove, the new bins have replaced existing clothing drop-offs at the Willoughby, Murrayville and Walnut Grove halls.

Their arrival was announced online Friday, Jan. 5 鈥渏ust in time for the post-Christmas closet clean out,鈥 the TLFCS post said.

Fire Hall 3 - Aldergrove - 26316 30A Ave.

Fire Hall 4 - Willoughby - 20253 72nd Ave.
