Teri Millis cares about little critters.

This is why the Aldergrove resident spent part of her weekend manning a table filled with baked goodies during an April 29 bake sale benefiting the .

鈥淚 think it鈥檚 really important to help all animals,鈥 Millis said, as she set up a table outside of Harvey Pet Food & Supplies at 20811 Fraser Hwy. 鈥淚 think that this group in particular kind of gets forgotten about sometimes, unfortunately, because everybody is more interested in helping dogs and cats, and people don鈥檛 realize the issues with the abandonment (of small animals) and all that happens with that.鈥

91原创-based SARS BC is a registered charitable society made up entirely of volunteers throughout the province. No one is paid to work with the animals.

The society is a virtual rescue so the majority of the animals 鈥 including rabbits, hamsters and Guinea pigs, Chinchillas and even rats 鈥 are in foster care until they can find a forever home.

SARS鈥 goal is to rehabilitate each of its rescued animals, many of which have been abused, neglected, or simply set free to fend for themselves. And, once they are ready, they are placed for adoption to suitable indoor homes. If they are not suitable for adoption, the animals live out the rest of their lives in the care of a SARS BC member.

Millis said she volunteers as much as she can with SARS BC, especially since she moved back to this area.

Millis helps out about once a month and admits she gets attached to some of the animals. She owns birds and a cat so, she said, 鈥淚鈥檓 kind of bit maxed out鈥 in regards to adding to her household.

鈥淭hey are so sweet,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t makes me want to take them all home. I鈥檝e taken care of them (SARS animals) in the past and they鈥檙e really sweet, but challenging pets to have. People don鈥檛 realize before they get them, and that鈥檚 why we have so many homeless ones, unfortunately.鈥

All money raised from the sale of vegan treats, donated by different groups and individuals, will help with SARS BC鈥檚 veterinary care, supplies and food for their rescued rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, hedgehogs, mice, degus and other small animals.
