The 111th Aldergrove Fair Days are just a little more than a month away, featuring more events than ever.
The fair, which is happening from July 14 to 16, will feature a variety of different events, from a celebrity shoot and an antique tractor pull, all the way to a dog agility show and potato sack race, said Robin McIntosh, president of the fair.
鈥淪ome of the things we鈥檙e expecting to achieve at this year鈥檚 fair are to ensure entertainment, education, pride in the community, and our historical traditions,鈥 McIntosh said.
There is no price to attend the fair, everything is contributed through donations. McIntosh said that there is so much fun to be had, and organizers want everyone to enjoy as a community.
Donations raised will help pay for the next year鈥檚 fair, as well as be shared with other community organizations.
Volunteers are always needed, and that they could never have too many to make the event run smoothly, McIntosh said.
鈥淰olunteers are absolutely critical. It really is the lifeblood of what we offer. They are the critical component.鈥
For that reason, after the fair is over, McIntosh said that it is essential to have a volunteer appreciation dinner, typically at one of their main member鈥檚 farms.
鈥淲hat makes it such a community fair is that the people get to participate by becoming volunteers. The community really benefits from everybody鈥檚 efforts,鈥 he said.
McIntosh has been president for the past 12 years and told the Aldergrove Star that this may be his last year, but said future events will be in good hands.
鈥淚鈥檝e got a good protege.鈥
He hopes that this year will be the best fair yet.
