A day of holiday festivities is happening in Aldergrove this weekend, complete with a visit from Santa Claus, hot dogs and hot chocolate, and the 25th annual Christmas Light Up Parade.

鈥淭his is a totally free event, there鈥檚 no cost,鈥� said parade chair Karen Long.

Long has been involved in organizing the parade for twenty years, and said it鈥檚 an important event for the Aldergrove area.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a celebration for our community and anyone is welcome to join us.鈥�

The fun-filled day begins from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 with the Aldergrove Elks鈥� annual Children鈥檚 Christmas Celebration at the Aldergrove Legion at 26607 Fraser Hwy.

Families are invited to meet with a variety of princesses, take photos with Santa and his elves, enjoy refreshments, get faces painted, and enter to win door prizes.

Following the afternoon fun is the Christmas Light Up Parade at 6 p.m. on Fraser Hwy. from Old Yale Rd. to 273rd St.

More than 20 floats will travel down three blocks, and the Girl Guides of Canada Ottergrove division will collect food donations for the Aldergrove Food Bank.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a small parade, but we have a smaller downtown. We do it for our community and they can invite their family and friends,鈥� added Long.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a community connection, it鈥檚 amazing the sponsors who come on board to support it. It鈥檚 like an old country Christmas.鈥�

The forecast calls for sun and cloud, but in the chance of bad weather, the parade runs rain or shine.

And ending the evening is an after-party from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Aldergrove Vineyard Church at 27309 Fraser Hwy.

Party goers can expect seasonal music, hot dogs, popcorn, hot chocolate, a Santa letter drop-off box, crafts, and more.
