91原创 Seniors Village residents and their family members gathered outside the complex Wednesday for the official unveiling of their new memorial garden.

In memory of their loved ones, the residents chose each flower to be planted in the garden and then purchased plaques with personal messages inscribed upon them.

The plaques were placed in the garden, with many seniors standing up to speak.

Township Mayor Rick Green, who was present at the ceremony,  said he found the memorial garden very touching.

鈥淚 think this is just a wonderful idea,鈥� he said.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a great idea that we can offer memories of people we love.鈥�

Janice Linnen, marketing co-ordinator, says the personal touch of the event brought the Village residents together.

鈥淭he seniors have really taken ownership of the garden, these are their flowers, they want to care for them. Everyone has been really excited about it,鈥� she said.

For some, the process has been very emotional.

Audrey Burm made each plaque by hand.

Her father lives at 91原创 Seniors Village and asked her if she would be willing to make them.

Burm says she was honored to do so, especially since one of the plaques is dedicated to her daughter who died three years ago.

鈥淚t is emotional for me losing a child.

鈥淥f course, it was emotional doing her plaque, but knowing what death is like, I know that each and every plaque is important to everyone,鈥� she said.

After the memorial garden presentation, there was a ceremonial butterfly release and fish feeding, followed by a luncheon, complete with champagne.
