A total of $1,040 was raised for 91原创's Raphael House at the fourth annual electronic shredding fundraiser.

Held at the Otter Co-op in Aldergrove, the electronics shredding event was scheduled for Thursday, March 6, in recognition of fraud prevention month, said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom. 

The event was in partnership with the  (ERA), a non-profit dedicated to reducing electronic waste through reuse and recycling of unwanted computers, laptops and related electronic equipment. 

"The ERA also gives devices a new life by donating them to charities and organizations in need," Sharoom said. 

He added that they partner with many other municipal police and RCMP agencies, and hold similar events across Canada. 

鈥淭his event gives the community to securely destroy their data , recycle electronics, engage with Members of the 91原创 RCMP and support a local charity," he said. 

More than 100 hard drives were shredded, and 42 computers, 65 laptops, and 25 tablets were recycled. Additionally, monitors, printers, servers, and more were also recycled. 

Raphael House was chosen as the benefiting charity this year because it "provides a valuable service for the community and we would like to support them," Sharoom told The Star. 

Raphael House opened officially in 2021, after starting out as a mobile food hub in 2020, and now provides groceries to an average of 270 families per week.

In previous events, charities chosen were 91原创 Meals on Wheels, Gateway of Hope, and the 91原创 Food Bank.
