Krause Berry Farms & Estate Winery once again held its popular breakfast with Santa this past weekend, drawing literally hundreds of people from throughout the Lower Mainland.

What makes this event so special is that it is a fundraiser for breast cancer research. Hats off to all the volunteers who helped raise more than $4,000 for the cause. Kudos!

And speaking of local wineries, and efforts being made for others, hats off to the team at Vista D鈥橭ro Farms & Winery.

They鈥檙e wrapping up their 13th annual Operation Cookies for Kids project this week.

They鈥檝e gathered and packed up tins full of cookies from 鈥渟ome of the Lower Mainland鈥檚 finest restaurants and bakeries,鈥 and sold them for a minimum donation of $50 鈥 every penny of that going to BC Children鈥檚 Hospital.

This effort has raised more than $95,000 in the first dozen years.

Lee and Pat Murphy鈥檚 goal this year is to sell more than 100 tins of the cookies, and to break the $100,000 mark.

鈥淭his time of year we need to be so thankful for our healthy kids while remembering how many children and their families spend the holidays in hospital rooms,鈥 Lee said.

Don鈥檛 know if it鈥檚 too late to be part of the project 鈥 given that pickups start tomorrow 鈥 but a lot of tins will likely walk out the door during their annual Christmas open house on Saturday, Dec. 15, from noon to 5 p.m.

In the spirit

Speaking of local businesses getting into the holiday spirit, 91原创鈥檚 own Casey Smith, manager of Freybe Brat Haus, is a regular at the Vancouver Christmas Market.

He鈥檚 sharing some of the locally produced sausages, pepperonis, and landjaegers with the masses.
