Also on tap for chamber

On the books for Tuesday, Sept. 19, the chamber once again hosts its monthly dinner meeting at the Coast Hotel and Cascades Casino.

But in what the chamber is calling 鈥渢he after party鈥 the BC Lottery Corporation is hosting a reception.

鈥淒id you know that 88 cents of every dollar gambled in B.C. goes directly back into the province?鈥 queried director of BCLC municipal affairs Greg Walker.

A portion of that money stays right here in 91原创, he said, explaining that last year the City received more than $6.9 million as a direct result of having the casino located downtown. Some of that money was earmarked for initiatives like the Timms Community Centre.

Walker will be speaking to this topic during the regular monthly dinner meeting happening upstairs in the ballroom. That meeting starts with networking at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6:30.

Then, he will discuss the topic on more of a one-on-one basis druing a post-meeting reception held downstairs in the Match 91原创 patio. This event, expected to kick off about 8:30 p.m., is exclusive to those who attended the dinner meeting previously.

Also on tap this month, the chamber鈥檚 Lunch & Learn sessions continue in the chamber office鈥檚 board room (#207-8047 199th St.).

This time out there are two in September. The first is Tuesday, Sept. 12, from noon to 1:30 p.m. and addresses the subject of how to make direct marketing work, lead by Canada Post鈥檚 Hemlock Harling.

The next one is Wednesday, Sept. 20, again from noon to 1:30 p.m., with the topic 鈥淵our Company鈥檚 Culture is You!鈥 presented by Heidi Eaves of Project House. She鈥檚 expected to lead a workshop on how to create a positive culture that maximizes employee engagement.

The cost for these sesssions are $10 for members, $15 for non-chamber member.

And also on the books for September, the chamber is hosting a 鈥渟pecial鈥 lunch event called The Predictability of Your Business Growth.

Alan Oishi, of Shirlaws Group Partners, will lead an interactive session to explore and discuss the predictable stages of growth, helping business owners think and plan more strategically to tackle the inevitable challenges ahead.

鈥淎ttendees of this event will leave with a deeper understanding of the normal cycle of growth and maturity of businesses that will provide new perspectives in where they have come from and what lies ahead,鈥 said chamber president Jack Nicholson.

鈥淎nyone who is involved in a business that is at a point of inflection and needs to do something different should attend this session. Register early as space is limited.鈥

The session is being held at Deloitte LLP (#660-8621 201st St.) from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. The cost is $25 for members, $35 for non-members.
