Fort 91ԭ’s Shine Jewellery and Accessories tries to bring in unique pieces of jewelry that will make a statement. As of now, there are no two pieces the same in the boutique, which also has specials such as 10 per cent off for customers in the store when the train goes by.

There’s a new kid on the block in Fort 91ԭ, and a fashionable one at that.

Shine Jewellery and Accessories has joined the runway of funky boutiques and restaurants lining Glover Road.

Specializing in contemporary costume jewelry, owner Marcia Duncan strives to bring in distinctive, stylish pieces at affordable prices.

“We will only try to get no more than five of each item,” she said. “Everything is very unique.

“And we try to get the statement pieces so that the women are wearing pieces that are a little bit different than everyone else.”

Shine celebrated the grand opening of their retail store July 1, after operating as a wholesaler in the same location for three years.

Duncan says it was the social aspect of communicating with customers that drew her to open a store front.

“I’m really social and I thought that I would like to do more of that. So we decided to give the retail store a try,” she said.

So far, feedback from the community has been very positive.

Residents from Bedford Landing to ladies from the Red Hat Society and small children have all stopped in and expressed their excitement for the sparkling pieces in the new store.

“I’ve really discovered that there’s no age limit anymore to jewelry,” said Duncan. “It’s for any woman from 15 to 60 really. Even kids love it.”

Working with wholesalers and manufactures in the United States, each piece of Shine jewelry is under $40.

Duncan has brought in a wide variety of chunky cuffs, beaded earrings and stretchable rings that fit any finger. She has yet to order doubles of any item, meaning that all the pieces she is currently carrying truly are unique in the area.

“Right now we only have ‘onesies’ because we want to see what Fort 91ԭ is looking for,” she said.

The cozy little shop is a perfect fit in the Fort 91ԭ scene, with a stark contrast of black and white walls, paired with crystal chandeliers and large mirrors to reflect the sparkle of the pieces.

Duncan has also embraced the quirkiness of the Fort 91ԭ area into their grand opening special. If a train goes by while a customer is in the store, they get 10 per cent off their purchase.

“Instead of the ice cream truck for the women it’s going to be the train,” she jokes.

She also offers a loyalty program where customers who buy nine items will get the tenth one free.
