If it moves, you can race it — apparently.
91Ô´´ speed demons have a new and rather unusual contest to look forward to, as Accuride International and the Belt Sander Racing Association (BSRA) get set for some full-throttle action here on Sept. 15.
The McKillican Vancouver Grand Event belt sander races will begin at 1 p.m. at 20233 100A Ave., 91Ô´´.
The event will celebrate the grand opening of McKillican’s new showroom and will feature representatives from a host of key suppliers who will answer questions and offer expert advice.
Meanwhile, race entrants will vie for trophies with souped-up and stock belt sanders, designed to roar down a 75-foot wooden track.
Complete with Christmas-tree starting signals, the sawdust — and sanders — really fly on this track, as racers aggressively compete for the fastest times.
In addition to first, second, and third place trophies, a special judge’s award will be presented.
Racers are encouraged to register right away to reserve a space in the competition.
