Some new colour has been added to downtown 91原创 City.

Once again, the Downtown 91原创 Business Association (DLBA) and the City have worked together to decorate McBurney Plaza for the summer.

First it was colourful umbrellas.

Last year it was vibrant ribbons stretching from end to end in the plaza.

This year, it鈥檚 been decorated with varying shapes of bright, cascading leaves.

It brings a new dash of colour and vitality to McBurney Plaza, said City Mayor Nathan Pachal, who described the aerial display as mesmerizing.

鈥淥ur chosen theme aims to evoke a sense of greenery and breeziness, resembling an urban forest tree canopy with a cooling effect,鈥 he said in sharing the inspiration behind the concept.

鈥淚t aligns perfectly with our vision for public spaces in the City, particularly McBurney Plaza 鈥 a thriving hub of art and community, offering a safe, inviting place for people to sit, play, socialize, eat, study, or simply take a moment to reflect,鈥 Pachal noted.

The vibrant aerial spectacle doesn鈥檛 only add to the aesthetic appeal of the city; it felt it will drive foot traffic to local businesses, said Teri James, DLBA executive director and City councillor.

鈥淎cting as a vibrant magnet, the aerial displays pulls in vast numbers of people to downtown 91原创, invigorating the city鈥檚 core and boosting our local businesses. It attracts thousands who may not have ventured here otherwise, creating a true win-win scenario for everyone involved in this partnership with 91原创 City,鈥 she suggested.

鈥淥ver 15,000 people have been using the #downtownlangley hashtag because of the aerial display, which is amazing and shows that all this effort to beautify and create interest in our downtown is so worth it,鈥 James said.

Pachal also highlights that the display is part of a bigger tradition, noting an aerial display has hung in McBurney Plaza the past three summers.

鈥淲e remain committed to exploring other exciting aerial concepts in the future,鈥 he added.

The display will remain up, in McBurney Plaza at 20518 Fraser Hwy., until early September.
